Fall foliage in Canada
Early october my three week fall vacation in Canada ended. Initially I planed a road trip in the southwest of USA with a good friend of mine in oder to enjoy some National Parks and cities in this region. But unfortunately we had to postpone the trip because of personal and work related reasons.
So I had to chose a different destination for my vacation - and fulfill an earlier wish of mine; to do a round trip through central Canada (and hopefully to enjoy some fall foliage with good weather).
Two years ago I caught a glimpse of fall foliage in Massachusetts and New Hampshire at the end of my round trip on the east coast of USA (photo above shows Meredith at Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire). Despite the changing weather conditions I liked the intense fall colors so much that I wanted to continue this trip further northwest...
So I took the chance and planned a three week long vacation using only public transportation starting in Toronto. Luckily I had the right timing to do this round trip through Ontario (ON) and Québec (QC) in early fall; the weather was near perfect and the peak fall foliage had not been over. Additionally this time of the year there is less tourism in these regions of Canada.
In retrospect this re-schedule was not only the perfect opportunity for my fall vacation but the shutdown of the american government would have influenced the road trip this october.
Here is a short itinerary of my fall round trip through central Canada:
- Toronto, ON
- Niagara Falls, ON - Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON - Niagara Falls, NY (USA)
- Huntsville, ON
- Algonquin Provincial Park, ON
- Ottawa, ON - Ville de Gatineau, QC
- Montréal, QC
- Ville de Québec, QC - Chute Montmorency, QC
I will write one (short) essay for each stop I made on my trip, linking to a gallery of photos I took in this location. I will start with some impressions from the Algonquin Provincial Park, located in Ontario - an approximately three hour car drive from Toronto.
Continued in: Algonquin Park - a peaceful getaway near Toronto
PS. I will write some essays about my round trip in fall 2011 after I caught up with my recent vacations and other projects.
